i sure wouldnt wanna be recued by her.

Sure you would. If you really need the help, you'll take whatever you can get. She'll probably just get herself killed is all.

I'm laughing at the whole boat full of experts who couldn't figure out that her problems stemmed from her inability to equalize the air spaces in her eyewear.....

Spoon:
i sure wouldnt wanna be recued by her. at the end of the day cert cards dont mean squat. it buys a false sense of security. the best teacher is experience.

Based on what has been said in this thread, she couldn't, so you don't have to worry about it.

Your right about the experience , but my C cards do mean something to me and my security ... I now think I know enough to maybe not kill myself , or someone else , while I'm getting that experiance

Just Amaizing, how in heck did she pass Rescue??

Stephen Ash:
Probably. It sure wouldn't be the first time. :D

I'm gonna go put my "flippers" on and think about this for awhile.

Stephen,

Please don't wear "flippers" when diving it tends to tick off the animal rights folks.

Naw...I just like to wear them around the house... slippers are highly over-rated.

It could be that this poor woman did her OW, AOW, Nitrox, and Rescue all in a row before ever doing a recreational dive. Then she counted her post-certification dives only when she was asked, so it was a total of 6. She also could have never done a boat dive before she boarded this liveaboard, so didn't have a clue about giant strides. By the time everyone finished talking about her behind her back and the DM yelling at her, she might have been so flustered and upset that she wasn't teachable at that point.

It's really too bad the DM didn't take her aside (before yelling at her) and have a quiet conversation about her dive experience and certifications. Instead, he helped set up a hostile environment where only the tormentors were having a good time. <sigh>

someone should actually investigate her instructor. id sure like to know whaqt certifying agency certified her. makes for a good story. how in the heck did she get certified for rescue. either the quality of instruction has gone down or her instructor was too busy not to notice her lacking skills as he was making a business of turning out c cards to unqualified students,

ScubaSixString:
HUH??!!! SIX?

OW - At least 4 dives
AOW- A bunch....4 specialty plus some
Rescue- Quite a few i would hope

How'd she get all those certs with 6 dives?

Could she buy a full cave cert with no dives? One would hope not. And that they'd let her buy a RESCUE cert should be criminal

It is possible that when she put 6 dives on her paperwork that she was only counting non-class dives. So maybe she had like the 15-25 that would be necessary for her courses, and six more on top of that. Nonetheless, she sounds like the type of diver who racks up c-cards like she's at the grocery store and thinks that the c card is the same thing as the experience. IE, i someone may only have 30 dives, but are aow eanx rescue, so they automatically think they're better than the guy sitting next to them who's been certified ow for two years and has 50 dives.

I bet the divemaster just let her on for some entertainment.

Regardless of the c-cards, the amusement, whatever... I think that ANY AND EVERY diver with more experience has a responsibility to step in and try to help. Don't laugh, don't wait for the DM to do something; talk to her/him yourself if you can help.
