Graham...in that first shot of the divers in the wreck....even if you'd had the internal flash on, it wouldn't have covered far enough to light the divers. Remember, the subject has to be within 3 ft of the cmaera for strobes/flashes to be of any optimal help.

Very nice!

I use the "C" mode to force HQ L images, no flash. I occasionally will do a manual focus.

The internal flash works very well in clear water. Sucks in everything else.

Basically I use "P" with the flash off.

I also turn off the display because it eats the batteries.

I'll try a manual white balance for my next dive.

Has anybody tried an external strobe with the S50 and the bubble case? Does it really give you a benefit over the internal flash? I've gotten nice results for stuff inside of 4' in somewhat murky California water. Outside of that range, there hasn't been enough light to do anything except a long exposure, and I didn't have a tripod with me.

And where do you get the silica packets? Did you save them from another purchase? I did see issues with condensation inside the camera housing, so I had to turn it off on my third dive. I think that came about due to the temperature, which dropped from 65 to about 53 degrees in around 10 feet. Brrrrr. I'm not sure if silica packets would have helped in this case; I suppose they wouldn't have hurt.

If you would take the time and read this thread you'll have the answer to your first question.

If you search for dessicant silica packs you'll find the answer to your second.

I don't mean to be snippish but these common questions get answered over and over every week. A little effort on members parts before they post questions will save us all lots of time and effort.

I have an S40 and use it with an Ikelite DS-125 strobe. It works quite well in my experience. I've used it in the murky, chunky Northwell waters with very good results as well as in Cozumel this last month. It's a pretty good setup for a beginner like me. The strobe really is a must for anything but clear water. Backscatter is just too extreme for the internal flash and anything but extreme macro shots.

I think that I will probably upgrade to an Olympus pretty soon however. The S40 works great, but there seems to be a lot more support and accessories geared toward the Oly.

Subject: Sea & Sea USA is loosing potential sales of camera lens and filters as well as potential customers and disappointing them.

Dear Sir;

This letter has the intention to bring to you some facts that I believe you are not aware of.

I think that Sea & Sea USA should have changed the item’s code when it suspended the imports of the “#38101 Conversion Lens Adapter for Canon WP_DC300”, instead of suspending the imports of “#58060 Conversion Lens Adapter for Canon WP_DC100”.

The fact which led me to believe Sea & Sea made this huge mistake is: “Canon stopped manufacturing the Digital Camera Ixus_300 (S300 Elph) and it’s proper Waterproof Case WP-DC100, but it still produces the Digital Cameras PowerShot S30, S40, S45, S50 and the most important, all this four cameras fit in Waterproof Case WP_DC300, which is also being produced.”

This fact is leading Sea & Sea USA to loose potential sales of MM II Wide Angle lens, MM II Macro lens, filters, potential customers and market share for the competitor INON.

I’m positive there is a great deal of complains about that. It is easy to confirm by checking the uncountable web forums about this matter.

I hope this advice helps.

Best regards,

I have a S40 and bubble. I've just upgraded to a new Canon G5 (awaiting a Subal housing hopefully).

I WAS going to buy sea and sea strobe, lens, etc. I looked at INON and feel they are a better product at a cheaper price.

Sea and sea when I inquired about their products could not provide me with data other than what was written in the tech sheet. I was not inpressed with their service. The Inon dealers have been fantastic and very patient and don't mind answering my many questions.

Take a look at Inon!.........Iain:)
