I was in Pompano Beach last week and had some nice dives through Lighthouse Diving there.

I stayed at the Sands Harbor Hotel which was 1 block away from the dive boats and that was great. I could easily carry my gear from the hotel to the boat. The hotel room was ok but the rest of the place was tacky, loud and needed lots of work. I'm not even all that fussy either.

If worse comes to worse I'd go back because of it's proximity to the Dive boats but I have to believe there are other hotel locations within about 30 minutes of the Fort Lauderdale Airport.

If anyone is aware of a hotel which is about $100 per night max and is within walking distance of the dive boat I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks in advance,

Sy

Call Pro Dive in Fort Lauderdale. There are a number of nearby hotels. Be aware that Pro Dive does a great job, but are not the sort of place that caters to divers who are fiercely independent.

American Dream II is at the docks of the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 hotel, about 10 minutes from the airport. It is a fine operation and I guarantee you will enjoy the boat and the crew.

Only downside is that rooms are not cheap.

I second the American Dream II as a great boat. I stayed at the Best Western just across the street last year, a 3 minute walk to the boat, however I think it's under renovation right now and might not be open.

There are at least five other hotels in a 2 mile radius of Pier 66, very short cab ride. Those hotels include an AmeriSuites, Comfort Suites and a Holiday Inn Extended Stay, all pretty reasonable.

Isn't there the Riverwalk Marriott on the other (west) side of the ICWW from Hyatt Pier 66?? Or has that one changed brand names?

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I was actually considering the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 but they have a policy that some hotels are adopting which I won't go along with. That is that even though the room has a fridge or mini-bar you cannot use it to store any soda (or anything)you might buy at the Publix. I was told by the Bahia-Mar that if you even open the fridge "you are then assessed a fee if you don't purchase any of the 'overpriced goodies' they store inside of it".

Screw 'em, that's one rule I can't go along with especially in an already expensive place like the Hyatt Pier 66.

You could always purchase a cheap styrofoam cooler at a grocery or drugstore and use that for a couple of days. Hotels still have free ice, right? Or at least I hope they do!!! What a ridiculous rule and I wonder WHO in their right mind EVER actually uses the stuff provided in those minibars anyway?
