It's just like anything else - there are appropriate times for things and inappropriate times for things. If YOU want to bring YOUR child to the 9pm rated-R movie and let it scream the whole way through the movie, then fine - I guess that's up to you. What's the point in going to the movies if you don't do it with the family, right?

BIG difference between a 2 hour show and a 168 hour vacation. Don't compare apples and oranges.

That's true. If your child is ruining your movie, it's an easy and relatively cheap loss. However, if your child is ruining your dive vacation, it's a much more expensive and time-consuming loss.

g'day divers....

i have deleted alot of posts, too many to pm every person like we usually do, so if your post is missing then its you that is one of the deleted

the psssssing competition between parents, non parents (which im one) and those that think they are all knowing is to stop and i ask that you please refer to OP's question if you are posting in this thread

its ok to give your opinion on the topic but there is no point to keep bashing the keyboard because others dont have the same opinion as yours

otherwise - you can all go diving i guess :)

cheers and many thanks

Good idea. To the OP, don't take a 4-month old infant to Cozumel. That would be the perfect example of selfishness. Either leave them with a trusted relative or friend, or don't go at all.

Having raised 2 who are now adults -- and that time really DID fly by, my recollection of the early years is something like this:
Year 1: Mom takes care of child, Dad takes care of Mom. No one really has much of a life beyond driving distance.
Years 2 and after: They walk, they talk, they become utterly portable. For maximum enjoyment wait until they are potty trained. Take them anywhere, but make sure you are comfortable with the day-care situation. Your child is your most valuable possession. Before handing them over to a stranger, ask yourself: "Would I trust this person with $100K in a suitcase?". If not, reconsider the situation. And lastly, when you do travel with munchkin(s) set aside part of your vacation time to do things that THEY might want to do. Take lots of pictures!

We haven't booked anything, but just trying to see if something like this is possible. Am I absolutely insane for even looking into this?

I don't think you're insane for looking into this. When my oldest son was 6 mo. old (he's 14 now...time sure does fly), my husband and I went to Cozumel for a four day trip w/o him, while he stayed with his grandparents. I really spent most of the time wondering how he was and missing him, so although I did enjoy the diving, if I had it to do over again, I would opt to bring him along. As for the babysitting, I've never stayed at Hotel Cozumel, so I can't comment on their services, but another option may be to ask one of the people who live in Cozumel and post on this forum often (like Christi), if they have any recommendations for you. BTW, I use Christi's shop when we're diving in Cozumel and consider her a friend, so I'd definitely trust her recommendation.

Was that your parents or your husband's parents your child was left with? Why were you "wondering how he was?"

I'm a worrier, so I would've been wondering how he was whether he was staying with my parents or my husband's parents. For the record though, he was staying with my husband's parents.

OK, just wondering ... not trying to start a fire. :D I presume it all turned out fine?
