According to this story from Reuters, the Hotel Barracuda is completely gone, GONE!

Amazing.

That was clearly an overstatement, as these pictures from yesterday's (i.e. Tuesday 10/25/05) cleanup attest to. The structure is obviously standing quite well...however, one cannot assess the level of damage to the ocean side or the lobby. However, it is clearly not "gone" nor did it "crash to bits around them." There are several photos showing the Hotel Barracuda about halfway down the first page.....

I am amazed that the eagles are still there.

I was just there this Aug with my family. We like the place for it's inexpensive and also so convenience to town. The shore diving is also easy and fun.In Aug the hotel were being renovated, floor by floor and was near to completion. Now they have to start all over again ...and worst. My heart goes out to the staff there. They were very nice and accomodating to my family.I just wondered what happen to the two rooms on the ground floor near the water's edge.We stayed in one of them and its so convenient for diving and relaxing by the "ocean pool" down the flight of stairs!I hope they will rebuild and we'll be back again soon.

It looks very bad... but it doesn't look "destroyed" - and I sure hope they're able to rebuild her. Without raising the rates, of course :)

Greetings fellow salts,
Very sad news indeed. My place of choice for over 5 years in a row. I remember Mr. Juan, Maritza and the maids. All very very sweet people. The jewlery maker and her litle daughter come to mind. I saw that little girl when she was just weeks old. I saw her last June playing in the sand and around the pool. My heart goes out to all of them.

Good Viz,
George

Wow, Hope they make it even nicer went they rebuild
