Hotel and Dive Operator in Cozumel, oh and mosquitos in December

Which hotel and dive operator do you love and recommend? Want a shorter boat ride AND nice accommodations. Oh and are the mosquitos bad where you recommend staying, even in December?

Perhaps try looking at some of the many trip reports to get an idea of what you are looking for.

Short boat rides mean staying in the south part of the Island.

Many divers like the El Presidente or a condo at The Landmark, combined with a private dive charter. Either one should be ok for mosquitos.

How long of a boat ride is shorter? Fast boats make for a shorter boat time. Best sites are far South = Longer boat ride so fast boat is required. Look for dive operators that run twin 115 or twin 150 hp motors or single 250+hp on a Panga type boat with max divers of 8.

Most Dive ops will pick you up from southern resorts or condos. Some pickup in town or a bit north of town.

Kind of seconding @lionfish-eater —Presidente Intercontinental has generally been either the best hotel or one of the best couple of hotels for decades . Landmark is probably the best condo building down south .

Hyatt bought a few hotel properties down south and did some major renovations at one , might be worth checking into (they bought Secrets, Sunscape and Dreams that are right next to each other ). Think Dreams is the one that had the major renovations .

Basically I would say your mosquito risk for December is pretty low but not zero. Mosquitoes are correlated to rainfall among other weather variables. Generally not that bad in winter, but you could always have bad luck since December isn’t the heart of winter. Ocean temps are very warm right now so hard to say when weather truly rolls into winter , but recent wind patterns are probably an encouraging sign . September/October are probably the worst for mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes are less of a problem but not ruled out. World wide in the tropics, including Cozumel, their is a risk of tropical diseases spread by mosquitoes. Having known people who died from Dengue it frightens me, when the mosquitoes come out, the Deet goes on.

Tres Pelicanos = ZOOM!!
They leave from the Marina, pick up at select southern hotels and the boats are fast. They run an automobile shuttle from downtown to the Marina and hotels along the way.

Mosquitos are a year round consideration on Cozumel. Whether they are numerous at any given time has more to do with whether or not there has been rain recently than the month of the year.

I agree with Tres Pelicinos. They leave from the Marina and they have very fast boats. As far as hotels we stay at some of the local moderately priced locals near Tres Pelicinos and they transport us to the marina at no cost. They offer many other options for pickup as well.
