Thanks. That was my assumption based on my studies. Good to have papers posted above and the comments of this tread.
 
Just a note about diving the Crater. In addition to the temperature factors it is also at elevation of around 5,000 feet. If you are staying in Salt Lake make sure you return via Provo canyon. If you go the other way over Parleys summit you will be returning over a pass that is close to 8,000 feet. Kind of like flying on a jet.
