hood ballooning up

Sam beat me to it.. I was going to suggest you make sure you remove your head from the hood before you punch the holes in it.

I had this same thing happen with an unvented hood I owned. Put holes in it and it was fine until it blew off the dive boat one day.

sounds like your hood is a little loose. does it fit tight on your head?

The hood is part of the vest so I can't do much about it since the rest of hte vest fits great. The hood isn't as tight as some others have been but it's fit is good enough. My head did not get cold when I dived it. Why would a loose hood balloon up?
