Not to divert too much...but just a note from my experience of 8 days in Bonaire last month...we frequently went both ways on that 'one way' road..the first few days, because we didn't know it was one way, the rest of the time because we werent about to take a 30 minute detour to get to a dive site 5-10 minutes down the road ;-) We often saw other trucks doing the same and it was no big deal for us, or the other rare oncoming truck to pull over and let the other pass. Just my 2 cents.

If you want something fun in Aruba, check out: arubabobsnorkeling.com Its the best on the Island. I will also be there and we do alot of diving on Aruba. Its not as nice as Bon and Cur but its still really nice if you know where to go. Have a great trip. Aruba Bob

Your self-centered decision to ignore local traffic laws will earn you frustration and ill will from the locals, including the regular stream of cruise ship tour buses that frequent this stretch of road. If everyone did that there would be intermittent gridlock, so what makes you so special? Anyone attempting to do this intentionally can expect to get a ticket from the (occasionally present) police, and the finger from the majority of people, like me, who are following the rules of the road.

I would echo what wwguy wrote. This is bad advice for a number of reasons. Blatantly ignoring local traffic laws will create ill-will toward you by locals as well as other divers. Once you are on the one-way stretch, folks tend to go a little faster around curves. You are at high risk for a head-on collision that will be 100% your fault if you are going the wrong way down a one way road. I think it would be a heavy burden to bear if you kill someone else this way just to save a bit of time while on vacation. I think it better to just plan your dives to 1000 steps and only go further north when you know you have the time.

There is a "short-cut" route that avoids Rincon for those who don't mind a bit of off-roading. Turn right on the big hill heading away from Karpata and take the back road which puts you back just up from Oil-slick.
