Diver63:
Can anyone recomend some good places to go for a Honeymoon that are romantic and the diving is good? Thanks!

Romance may be created by the participants almost anywhere if they were meant to be together.

How do you define "good" diving? If you want to fall into a pool like environment, cool. If you want big critters, okay. If you want advanced micro critters- that's a third.

All sorts of variables.

Romance? Pack a candle. (But burn it with extra care and caution!) If it's around the Christmas holidays- secretly pack deorations including a small string of lights. My SO was one of the big bosses for a very ritzy hotel chain- she's seen it all. She loves retelling of our romantic dinner for two in our breezway at Tobago or the Galapagos (and so on) usualy revolving around a jar of peanut butter and some Wyler's drink mix. Romance is where you create it.

Diving, on the other hand, is where you find it. What were you looking for?

RoatanMan has a good point -- you can find ways to make your honeymoon special and romantic no matter where you end up. Also, you don't mention what region you are looking to travel to, what month, what budget, what kind of diving you like, what other activities you are looking for, or what you define as being romantic. That said, based on my own taste and opinions, here are my recommendations:

In the Pacific, I second the recommendation for Hawaii (the Big Island is my favorite, but all have wonderful attributes). Also Bali, Indonesia. For our honeymoon, we spent one week on Bali and one week on a liveaboard that sailed out to Komodo. The diving week wasn't "romantic" so much (but fun!); the week on Bali was really magical. French Polynesia is of course honeymoon central -- but it also is supposed to have good diving. I haven't been there myself, but I know people who've gone and loved it. Ditto Fiji. I've also heard people wax poetic about dive honeymoons in Thailand and the Maldives. We've been to Australia (Sydney, Cairns, and the GBR) and didn't find it to be as special as Indonesia -- I'm glad we chose the latter for our honeymoon.

In the Caribbean, St. John is a pretty and romantic island, although not the most spectacular diving perhaps. I've heard really good things about Anse Chastenet and the diving on St. Lucia but haven't been there myself. Places I've been to that I may have enjoyed very much but would NOT have considered romantic enough for a honeymoon: Roatan, Bonaire, Curacao, the Riveria Maya, Cozumel, and Ambergris Caye, Belize. (Mainland Belize, however, has potential). And I'm sure there are lots more great places in the Caribbean that people can recommend.

Happy planning!

It also depends on what time of year you are getting married. I got married in Sept. so most of the Carribean was out, we went to Fiji (Matamanoa Island) it was great. Good luck and Congradulations!!

Bora Bora was great for a honeymoon. We weren't divers at the time but saw incredible sea life just snorkeling. Can't wait to go back for the diving!

We were married onboard the Nekton Rorqual in Ft Lauderdale in June 2002. Immediately following the ceremony (performed by the Captain - Chris) the ship set sail for the Bahamas. I can't think of a better way to spend a honeymoon (and a wedding for that matter), at least for us !!
