Hello, did you heard about home exchange? Somebody told me of this possibility few days ago and from that time it is constantly running through my mind. It is really cheap way to travel but when I think about it really doesn’t seem to be a safe way. But what you can tell me about it had you ever had bad experience with new householders, or maybe It's not so bad and worth trying?

I am a joint owner of a home listed on a Home Away site.

Scottsdale vacation house rental: Private, Sonoran Desert beauty, heated pool & spa, expansive views, convenience

The way it works is that individual owner lists on the site for a fee and then all transactions are between to two of you. No middle man.

This works very well- but you need to make the deposit in some way that gives you some recourse.

There is a real problem in areas like Florida where the person listing the house is not the owner but is running a scam. Don't really know how you get around that.
I guess you could search the property tax records of the county to see if the ownership line up with the owner listed on the web site.
Wouldn't really work out of the country - so I guess you could see how many reviews there were.

If you want to do a house swap - good luck - we tried for two years and only had crazies apply!
