Today I completed my first open water dive in upstate NY, water temp 35, air temp 40.
I was in a drysuit, and am going back tomorrow morn, to finish and get certified!!!!
I saw my first fish, about 4 inches long, maybe a perch.

also my legs filled with air and took me to the surface, :D My instructor took off looking for me in a flash, but i was watching him from about 10 feet above him and trying to wave to him i was ok...but by then i had surfaced, pulled my legs in and corected the arm valve dump...swam back down and showed him what happend
drysuits are tricky buggers
all in all, I AM HOOKED!

AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not cold, it's invigorating! 8-)

Don't worry about the drysuit. It just takes some practice.

Sounds like you had a good time, maybe learned a lesson about drysuits as well. That tuck and roll maneuver is I think mostly needed when you first start diving them. After you've done it a while you mostly avoid what causes it in the first place so it becomes a non issue.

35 is a pretty good temp, beats my coldest by one degree. Maybe this weekend I'll get some colder temps but I doubt it because our weather is starting to warm up.

Where are you diving? I'm headed up that way on May 1st for a visit to my Dad in Fulton and am looking for a spot to dive. Maybe a good lds that does short trips, etc.

Well that's a rip roaring start! Welcomne to the "if you can dive here you can dive anywhere club". It will only get easier with practice and your own gear.

The drysuit is an extra detail at a time when you are already in info overload so congratulations on keeping your composure. I'm assuming you were in a rental suit and you will have a better time as you get into your own gear which is likely to fit better making for less bubble action.

Welcome to ScubaBoard and to the sport.

Hi everyone,
I was diving in skaneateless lake.

My instructers were awsome.

today was just as cold, but not too bad. a little bit of ice was formed around the edge of the lake...

yes, i was in a rented suit, and i know rentals suck...but i cant really afford a drysuit just yet.

im from rochester, but school in syracuse

also no probelms today! i used 3 more pounds and had perfect bouyancy

I AM CERTIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
