So i'm considering going tech with sidemounts and was looking at Hollis Katana 2. I reached out to sales about depth rating and received this "The Hollis Katana 2 SMS Harness, including both the single and dual‑bladder models, is rated to a maximum operating depth of 130 ft (40 meters)." I believe i read somewhere that Xdeep stealth 2.0 was rated up to 130m? Would Katana 2 be a safe choice for eventual PADI 100m tec?

a BC isn’t a sealed system to be rated to a specific pressure/depth, go with what feels more comfortable when you try it

If you decide to go with the PADI path (not my preference) you might find yourself having to get a redundant bladder BC, do check with an instructor first

I have a Hollis Katana 2 and have no issues with it. I recently dove sidemount at 140ft and it worked flawlessly. IF there is a depth limit, it would be 330ft which is the max limit for non commercial diving. Another quick tip, if you get a dual bladder system, make sure the bladder you are NOT using is empty. Nothing worse than having some air in your 2nd bladder, it'll throw off your buoyancy for sure. But yeah, I strongly recommend the Hollis Katana 2, it's an AWESOME setup! And yeah you'll be ok at 100m.

OK makes sense, the comment from the sales rep threw me off. Does the same apply to regulators, 1st and 2nd stages? Believe all Cressis claim rating of only 40m.

Yes and No in a way, there is a rating mechanism for regulators that pertains to flow requirements at depth, some certification is compulsory like basic CE reating (for EU market participation, Cressi is Italian so they have to comply) and some aren’t (CE250A, Norsok..)

They’ll work at 100m for sure, but would they be sufficient that’s the question

I see the "if" qualifier but how did you come up with this 100m limit for non commercial diving? I'm calling FUD

K2 is a great SM rig, but you don't need the dual bladder. If you end up with a dual bladder find a way to make it oral inflate only. The aqualung i3 has this weird backup oral inflator and likely has the same threads

I know someone that's certified to 330ft. He has gone to depths of 400 - 425 before. He told me that generally is frowned upon because some equipment warranties cover depths to 330ft. If something happens at depths lower than 330ft, the equipment manufacturer would not be liable.

Razor has the same option, an oral inflate that looks like a drinking hose for a camelback bladder

On my K2, I don't even hook up the secondary bladder. In an emergency I can either orally inflate OR hook up a line.
