Hi everyone!

I've been checking out this site for recommendations on diving in Playa Del Carmen. I'm planning a dive trip there next week. I'm new to diving but I want to make sure I do it at least once or twice a year. It's a bit more difficult for me to get in dives since I live in NYC and hate cold water. Any other suggestions for relatively cheap dive trips from NYC would be greatly appreciated! This board has tons of great info!

Fort Lauderdale area, jetblue on friday, dive on saturday, jetblue back on sunday. Leaves from lga and jfk. It is a pretty short flight also.

Welcome to the board, there are a bunch of New Yorker's on here. Have a great trip in mexico. Fell free to ask any questions.

Welcome aboard!!

I've been diving in Key West a few times and it's pretty good. Best of all is that the water is 31-33 degrees so you don't even need a wet suit.

Look up Lost Reef Adventures, they'll take good care of you. My favorite dive site down there is Wreck of Alexander, nurses sharks and lots of sting rays.

Flights shouldn't be to expensive either, if they are try flying to Miami and then take a bus down to Key West.

Other then diving Key West is a great place for a vacation.

Hope this helps.

Have a great day.

Sanna

When you get to PDC, take the ferry to Cozumel. This is a nice hotel with a good operation and nice packages: blueangel-scuba.com

Have fun in Mex... Lot of Drift Dives... Playa is alright, more of a toristy shopping area. On the in-land side of Cozumel is where the best diving is. You will be a little north of Cancun, but no worries take a boat down and jump onto any of the local charters and you will have a blast. Santa Rosa Wall dive (70-130ft) big recommend!!! Shallow Night Dives are great there, especially if you have any amount of moonlight (shut off the flashlights and watch the nightlife begin)

welcome aboard

Welcome to Scuba Board, lo212. I absolutely understand where you're coming because I use to feel the same way up until two weeks ago when I got a chance to so some cenote dives in Mexico and LOVED IT.

Now I want to start doing local dives and am part of a newly formed social group called Dive NY for divers in and around the New York metro area to get in on some dives and meet. It's a small group and was only created last week by fellow SB'er Twistedarts, click on link below:
