Thanks for the comments everyone. I did weigh the transplate against the hog setup and I realize it isn't full hog. But I have stripped it down quite a bit leaving the features I like e.g. the padding. and ditching all the d rings it came with. 8 seems ridiculous to me, if you count the ones connecting the shoulder straps. I'm afraid I will be buying my first set of regs from my lds so they will have to be sherwood, or oceanic. but that will give me a good set for singles. When I switch to doubles I might do the diverite pair. I do like sherwoods blizzards reliability under the ice. I may step full hog someday but I still mostly rec dive so I'm giving in to some comfort and gadgitry.

You'll probably find, like most hog divers, that the lack of padding and gadgetry is far more comfortable in the water.
