I love my D1, but just the other day, the high pressure seat failed during a dive. I'll be trying to get a rebuild kit soon here. Fortunately, they are pretty easy to tear down and rebuild, and the quality is internal, not just external. Until I get this D1 rebuilt, I have to use some Beauchat's that are ok...but I already miss my D1! :(

The HOG BP1 first stage (a piston regulator, similar to scubapro regulators) can be configured as DIN or Yoke. It is not recommended for cold water diving which cerich (HOG rep) defines as diving in water below 45° F. If you're planning on diving below 45° F and you don't want to use a DIN to Yoke adapter and you don't want to rebuy equipment, then contact cerich, I bet he will be able to help.

I think he's saying that HOG can likely sell you a D1 Cold configured with a Yoke if you asked nicely.

The BP1 is available DIN or Yoke.

The HOG D1 in it's "Edge" version is available in Yoke. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get a HOG D1 in Yoke as well.

Since you're a www like me, Scubapro is your friend; MK10 and MK20 are great regs, and they're cheap and plentiful.

I took Zung up on his good idea and bought an MK10.

I'll just seal the HOG DIN first stage in plastic until I have a need for it. Not many DINs in our little town in Mexico where we dive.

Hi,

Sorry if this is a dumb question but asking is the only way to learn........

What are the symptoms of a high pressure seat failure?

My guesses are either a free flowing reg that you can't stop or ??????

Is the high pressure seat replaceable?

Yes, a high pressure seat is replaceable.

Yes, if it fails, then its an uncontrolled freeflow.

Yes, freeflowing second stage. In this case, air also leaked past the diaphragm which made it poke out, and a few bubbles were coming up from around that oring as well, but not many.

I had to replace the seat on the second stage as well, I believe it got damaged by the failure, but that is a 5 minute repair job, the Hog second stages are really easy to work on.

The HP seat is replaceable in every reg I know of, it's a part that usually gets replaced when regs are serviced. It's no biggie, sometimes stuff happens you know? I have been impressed by the quality of the Hog regulators, so this one minor failure doesn't bother me much. Could have happened to any of my regs. I had a Miflex HP hose develop a small leak (and it did it rather loudly, sounded like a gunshot) the week before, but that doesn't stop me from liking my Miflex hoses :)

Send me a PM and I'll get you a couple service kits to replace the parts you used. Did you see any obvious failure issue on the HP seat? I really haven't had others with that issue.

I brought in a very few BP1 in yoke for a specific request, I still have a few on hand.

I do have a EDGE Epic first stage in Yoke in a cold and non cold version. In fact I just got them in this week. They are a all new design for 2010, and use Trivalent chrome for the environment and a different HP seat system than the older EPIC first stages. These are a non swivel first stage.

I will be getting pictures posted soon.
