Heck, I'm still digesting my turkey on Black Friday... I couldn't move to get to a store if I wanted to (but I can still operate a mouse and shop on-line).

craracer has the etymology correct... it's called "Black" because that's historically when retail stores went from losing money to making a profit for the year. Red ink in the books is a debt or loss and black ink is a profit. It's meaning less and less these days with internet shopping but it will probably be called that forever, at least here in the USA. It'd be interesting to see when that date falls in other countries that are less bent on consumerism and how retailers accommodate that.

In NZ it's probably Boxing Day i.e. day after Christmas, big sales ridiculous amounts of shoppers, just crazy.

Yep you got it. People lose all sense of dignity and self respect. They have no concern for or worse yet fear of their fellow man. And they sometimes look like this so it's not all a huge loss. Very entertaining:
