I heard it a bit differently - the diver came up from the dive sperate from the group and next to the boat. Driver did not see/notice her and engaged the props to move to the boat to the group. It was one of the low small 6 pack boats with a top and one of my favorite driver/captains. Very sad and tragic no matter how it happened as I really like the captain..... :( Have been diving with PH since 1997 and they are a good safe op.

This whole incident is another good reason to dive with a sausage down there.....if you don't surface with the DM, you better have something to show where you are or you may get run over.....I am suprised it doesnt actually happen more than it has down there. Some of those dive site get busy in the am's.

Dunno. Is this a common thing for marine boats?

Absolutely not. Never seen a prop guard on any dive boat ever, in any location anywhere in the world I've ever dived. The rarity would be a dive boat with one.

Many, many accidents can be averted if you learn to shoot a sausage from depth during your safety stop. This would help avoid drive offs as well and I can't emphasize this enough. During the ScubaBoard Invasion to Coz, every group has four of five sausages shoot during our safety stop. The captain and crew love it so they CAN miss us. :D

Bad reporting/translation. San Miguel Clinic also has a hyperbaric chamber - and Dr. Piccolo is the dive medicine specialist - and the primary tourism Dr. at San Miguel - so he probably was there as MMM said to assess if there was also DCS - who knows. You can never rely on accurate reporting from the local papers and a lot gets lost in translation.

Prayers to the injured diver as well as the crew involved - this cannot be easy for anyone.

Doc Piccolo is a good doc and if I get in trouble there I'd rather see him than anyone else still there. I miss Dr. Chey though.
