Interesting; I just weighed mine and its 5.5 lbs. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about something though (it happens pretty regularly)....

Yah... I don't know. Mine is an older Zeagle Ranger... maybe 8 years or so...
I don't know what you mean by "stripped down", either. Mine is just how it comes... nothing more, nothing less. (Maybe I should take the weights out... hahaha... just kidding.)

Anyway... 5.5# is pretty darn good. There really are some BP/wing combos less than that, though.

Well I am down to 2 bcd`s and one bp/w

The Bp/w I choose will be the Halcyon.

I’m not to sure which model to get but after extensively reading the reviews here I feel confident I can`t go wrong with a Bp/w.

The 2 BCD`s I’m down to will be the Poseidon or the Zeagle.

I travel a couple times a year so I don’t think weight will be much of a factor for me.

I ask that anyone familiar with these products I have mentioned PLZ give me your professional opinion as to what would be my best bet as to making a decision.

I`m strictly recreational right now but I would like my Bcd or Bp/w to perform for me as I progress in this amazing sport! If you will.

A very big THANK YOU to anyone who helps out this rookie!!

You might want to read this thread before you decide on the halcyon.

I don't have any experience with halcyon, but I love my BP/W. My wing is the oxycheq, and I love it. No inflator problems (the inflator seems to be a problem with halcyon based on the above thread.) Some of his other complaints he would probably have with other setups as well.

One thing you might consider is a comfort harness (which I don't think halcyon offers). It's an adjustable harness, so it allows for instant adjustments when you change from a heavy exposure suit for cold diving to a light suit for warm diving. It's also much easier to get in & out of than the regular harness. I have the comfort harness from DSS, and my buddy has the dive rite transplate. Both have their selling points, and there are other harnesses out there. Zeagle makes one, with a backplate that uses the zeagle stye weight system, so it's similar to the ranger.

I would look into a backpack and wings. I just made the switch and wish I would have done it sooner. I would check out Deep Sea Supply and Oxycheq with simple "Hogartian harness". The heads of both companies are on SB so you can ask them any questions about their gear you might have. Dive Rite, Golem, Agir Brokk, OMS, Halcyon all seem to make good products as well.

Ummmm, you probably realize that by saying you're choosing "the" halcyon or "the" zeagle you're referring to companies that make many different BCs...halcyon makes different wings, different plates, etc, and a zeagle ranger bears little resemblence to a zeagle scout.

Choosing the best BC (or BP/W, for clarity) for your own diving environment and style is not like just finding the highest price or best recommended brand. You have to factor in your weight requirements, exposure suit, tank type (AL vs ST) and most important, some experience in diving with these different types of BCs. See if you can at least get in the pool at your dive shop with a steel plate/wing, a back inflate BC, and a vest style BC. (not all at once!!! hehe)

Hmm I think the 5 year old wins that 1.

How bout this 1.

A 25 year old with the latest greatest gear diving with a 50 year old with conshelf 14, and a horsecollar BC. They see a whale shark, and a pair of spotted eagle rays on their dive together. Who wins?

I say the Whale shark and the Spotted eagle Ray win.
Neither has to get back on the boat!
