We're definitely related...LOL...I couldn't (and wouldn't) have said it better myself...on BP/W, to me it makes sense, until you have to lug the BP part all over creation. My dive bag is simple and light: a dive bag, Zeagle Ranger, Reg. set up, boots, gloves, wetsuit and fins...that leaves plenty of room for all my wacko protein powders, vitamins, green drinks and protein bars that all together don't weigh as much as a 1/2 a B, much less a BP...

I don't get it, Neal. A Ranger weighs as much or more than many BP/wing combos. Plus... it takes up way more room in a bag.

Well good for you! Just remember that buying all those supplements (or titanium reg) isn't worth squat if you breath like a hoover vacuum cleaner or have the trim or bouyancy skills of up-right freezer.

OMG! You have SCUBAJENNIFER's avatar. You should give it back.

She wussed out and went back to using that tawdry blonde... apparently embarrassed by the rest of the family. I don't blame her.... poor girl.

What is it with you guys and ugly avas? It seems to me you would pick a good looking man if you're not going to use your own photo.

My advice? Don't go overboard on your first purchase. Buy mid-priced equipment, get yourself into a dive group and club and do at least a 100 dives before thinking about buying the high end stuff.

Why shouldn't he buy the gear he wants regardless of price. If he can afford it, and is doing the research, he'll most likely end up with quality gear. I don't think he could do much better that the reg he bought. Sure he could have bought the B2 and been more than satisfied, but he wanted the T2. What's wrong with that. I know I've bought some high end gear when I could have bought something else for less. Sometimes if there is doubt you might pay more just to be on the safe side. Sometimes you pay more just because it looks good. either case, haven't we all done that from time to time?

Sure, sure, and with 2000+ dives and instructor credentials, that would sound like me...I take it back, we couldn't be related, because I don't assume things about people that I don't know, am not rude or obnoxious and I'm definitely much better looking in sunglasses...owning a dive shop doesn't mean you know diddly about actually diving...I don't think my completely stripped down Ranger weighs that much...certainly not as much as a BP/W...unless it's one of those key chain ones...heh-heh...

Nothing wrong with buying whatever you want or stuff you like the looks of, it's just not good if someone believes most expensive always means best, since that's not the case. A new diver may not realize that so it is worth pointing out. Focusing on buying the most expensive instead of features of the gear itself could mean someone unfortuntately doesn't buy the best.

My Ranger weighs a little over 8 pounds.

My Al plate plus STA plus H Pioneer Batwing weighs 7 pounds and takes up less than half the space to pack as the Ranger.

... and some guys have rigs that weigh half as much as that.

I agree with you damselfish. To buy the most expensive just to say it's the most expensive is 1 thing, but he seems to be doing just what I would do, and that's to reseach, ask opinions, and hopefully try a few styles, then buy what he wants. And if he buys a higher end model of the style he likes, then great.

Sometimes you can't try before you buy. There wasn't an LDS that carried a BP in my area, so I bought 1 only on recommendations from people that used them. Turned out to be one of the best decions I've made in dive gear.

I also agree with others who say "Shut up and dive", but you have something to dive with. And if price isn't an issue, buy what you want.

My only regret is that I don't have that "Price is no issue" thing.:(
