NiMh vs Li-Ion for an HID can light. Pros and Cons please. GO!

Not to be rude, but this has been covered in depth. Did you do a search?

Yes, but most of them are quite old, at least in my search, and I'd rather get newer thoughts and information.

Maybe if you had some specific questions to pose (particularly in the context of cave diving), as opposed to simply commanding the masses to present to you a comprehensive brain dump?

Most all of your gear questions would be answered in an Intro to Tech class (if you go NAUI or GUE) or a Cavern class (if you go NSS-CDS, NACD, etc), and if they're not, it certainly puts you on good terms with a trusted instructor who you can always shoot an email if you have any questions.

But I wanted a brain dump! ha ha. Okay, I don't need to know the technical aspects (i.e. lighter, longer charge etc etc) unless there's something new in development or something changed a lot like life or discharge rate or whatever.

I was actually looking more for A) potential failure/cost issues B) convenience C) Opinions/comparisons of divers who have been using one, the other, or both over the years.

The posts I found in searches were back to 2006 and seemed much of it was covered when they were kind of new. I'm just wondering what people think years later.

I have both, they both work fine. NiMH is cheaper. Avoid any NiMH pack built with anything but a pure series configuration. Lion has more capacity for a given size. Vastly more $$ though.

Both have failed in the past, cords being a perpetual weak link. But also flooded light heads. And I broke the innards of a Lion pack once. My NiMH pack is 5+ yrs old and going strong. I've avoided deep discharges on it and have a good Maha2 charger.
