Hi Ya’ll,

Actually I’m pretty new to South, so I really don’t have the ‘Ya’ll thing’ down yet, and I don’t want to offend any proper southerner. I moved down to Middle Georgia last October from Olympia, WA. Up in the Northwest, my passions were skiing and kayaking, but since there isn’t much skiing down here, I’ve had to substitute in a new thing to blow money on…. Uhh, uhhh, uhhh I mean I’ve had to substitute in a new thing to do.

I’m really digging this diving thing. My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon in Jamaica (Mid-May), and we had a blast diving in Negril. She got certified a few years ago, and I got certified in April. Big ups to the peeps at Diver’s Supply in Macon, GA for helping us out with education and helping us select the proper equipment we needed.

I’m looking forward to picking up some beta on diving in the Carolina’s, and all that Florida has to offer.

Hi Sam in Joja,
Welcome to SB, quite a move you made, from the great northwest to the south. Any culture shock?

And it's Y'all - not ya'll, a contraction for You All :fork: and thanks for asking.

Glad you've joined us...

That's Ok Don I'll take the California flag, and I fixed your cowboy. ;)

…oh yeah, there is a little difference in lifestyle down here. I’m not a coffee achiever, but up until about two weeks ago there wasn’t a Starbucks for 90 miles. As for pace of life; we didn’t move that fast up in the Northwest. In WA state they’ll pull you over for exceeding the speed limit by 5 mph, while down here you get away doing 10 over (even then you get passed bye the Smokies).

I gotta drive 5-6 hours just to find a patch of man made snow, and that just aint right.

Down here, their idea of ‘sporting goods’ store is little different than mine. Although a nice dive shop makes for a pretty good ‘sportin’ goods’ store.

And thanks for the tip on Ya’ll and Y’all. I imagine there is quite a debate over that. And I suppose Ya’ll would be a contraction of ‘You’ and ‘Will’, and that begs the question of who this Will guy is and why does he keep coming up??? And begs for further questions like Does Will mind being a contraction, and does Will have a boat to take us all out diving on? I conform easily, and being that when I google ‘Ya’ll’, I get ¾ of a million responses, but googling ‘Y’all’ I get over 2 million responses I’m going to yield to the masses and spell it ‘Y’all’.

Thanks for the warm greetings!

Peace Y’all

Nope, it's a contraction of "you" and "all". There are times when addresssing a group you use "all y'all", for example "How all y'all doin' today". Moving to Wisconsin from the South, it's a novelty here and I've had lots of experience explaining the finer points. Welcome to SB.
