+1 for Jim and Daves comments - lifts are very common in UK. Most I have seen and used are actually powered by a wire rope hoist (like a Warn SUV winch) which sits at the top of the frame and lifts/lowers the platform on it's rails. I have seen removable ones, but most are fixed as the frame and stand tend to be stainless and very heavy.

A wire rope hoist will cost 600-700 dollars and most are good for a minimum lift of 8000 plus pounds so more than enough to safely lift a diver, twinset, drysuit, etc. etc. together with the weight of the frame.

As the wire rope hoist is only complicated part, (the frames are simply in runners with bearings), replacement parts cost and maintenance is low. I have done your survey by the way, as I appreciate this is part of your course - P

. We considering to make an affordable convenient way for everyone to get out of the boat with the gear. We are thinking of making it small and easily removable from the boat so it does not have to be attached to your boat all the time, you can remove it from the boat when you know you're not going scuba diving.
.
I think you have identified the main challenge - trying to devise something small and removable that is also capable of lifting a diver plus equipment.

You will need to solve both the device weight issue as well as devising an energy source capable of powering the device.

Have your engineers provided any input in these areas?

Thank you Phil and giffenk :)

Our engineers are still in the process of thinking up an actual model that works with this. We handle the business aspect and should be meeting with them again sometime this week to figure out what they have done/solved. We are also thinking of making some removable attachments to the rope for pulling big fish out of the water and more.

Look up hoyer lift. They use them in pools to get disabled folks in and out. Strong enough for a 400 lb person and really smaller
than a car engine joist/lifter thingy

Go to the Nai'a website under Dive Logistics. They invented a removable mechanical diver lift for dive skiffs. Contact them for help. Been using it for years.
