I learned to dive about 13 years ago and haven't been in awhile, but am planning an ultimate diving trip to Bonaire in January. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be going alone because I don't have many scuba diving friends and its a weird time to travel. Has anyone else traveled to Bonaire to dive alone? And (perhaps I'll get lucky) is anyone traveling there at the same time who wouldn't hate a tag-a-long?

thanks!

I think you hit the nail on the head with the tag-along strategy.

Bonaire as I hope you realize is best known and loved for shore diving. As such you don't have a DM to pair people up or take the odd man out. To enjoy shore diving hoking up with some like minded divers or other solitary traveler would be the ticket.

The key to making this work will be for you to not be a total liability. Heading to Bonaire without diving for "a while" could be an issue. I hope you were proficient in the day and the dry spell has been reasonable. In any case I would get with a shop to find some pool time to get your act into shape. maybe a refresher but at least tune yourself up and make sure your gear is happy.

As a fallback you can utilize dive boats and dive masters to make the most of your visit.

Have a really nice time.

Pete

The last thing I want to be is a pain. I've signed up to take a refresher and plan on doing dives with a dive master the first couple of days. Is it difficult to find spare divers there? Or do most people arrive with a dive buddy?

Bonaire is awesome and you will have a blast...! But if you are looking for dive buddies in NYC, check us out - New York City Sea Gypsies

In addition to being a great way of making friends who love to dive, the Sea Gypsies even have a few trips of our own that we organize each year (details on the site).

PM me if you like...

Welcome to SB!

Where are you staying on BON? Your best bet is to talk with divers at your hotel and the on sight dock and ask if they mind if you dive with them. You will be able to find personalities and divers that fit your comfort level.

Good luck and have fun!
