Hi all, I'm mew here too. My wife and I are just starting to take up scuba and while checking things out on the net, found this place.

Anyway, if anyone has some advise for new divers, let me know. I know by experience on other forums there is a flood of questions of "whats the best ____." or "How do I ____.", so I won't ask right now. :snorkels:

So, glad this forum is here.. see ya'll in the water...

Welcome Darin! My advice to you is just check out the other forums, ask questions (probably do a search first) and enjoy your new addiction..er, hobby :D

Also, filling out your profile (location) will help out some.

Hiya Darin! Welcome to Scuba board. and welcome to Scuba Diving!

as for some advise, hold off on buying equipment if you can except for a mask. fins if you really want. i would hold off on rushing into buying a BC or a regulator and all of that jazz- you don't know how much you are going to be diving and if you are buying good stuff.

make sure you are very comfortable with your instructor- make sure he doesnt pressure you and that you just like the guy or girl. i have heard some really horrific stories on this board about bad instructors. of course i am sure yours will be fine, but i am just looking out for ya!

for now i think thats fine- make sure you read the manual through and through and relax and have fun!

well if you have any more elaborate problems, then just drop a post in the New 2 Scuba thread and you will have 20 answers by the end of the day.

Welcome to Scubaboard! Advice you need for now, listen to your instructor, think first, then do. You are paying for the instructor's time, don't let them rush you. If you have a good instructor, it shouldn't be a problem. You don't need equipment advice at this point. When you do, look through the forums and then if you don't find the answer you're looking for, just ask.

Welcome Aboard!!!

It's addictive, but who cares?!?!?

Good friends and good info. What could be better???

P.S. - If you have not already done so, please fill out your profile.

Hi there Darin. I would just like to know about "mew". Do you live around cows? lol Just joking, and we are glad you are with us. Enjoy the site.

Heya Darin and welcome to the board! Congrats on taking to first steps towards getting certified. My suggestions would be to speak to several instructors before committing to just one. I found an awesome one that way. Also, keep your wife involved as much as possible, get her on the board to with her on screen name. (trust me, it will help)
Best wishes and make sure to keep us updated on your progress! :)

Hey! Welcome to ScubaBoard!! As for some advice for newbies, when you're buying your stuff remember "you get what you pay for" and this stuff is what keeps you alive underwater. other than that, safe diving!!

Hi all, I'm mew here too.
Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

Hey murph, I think it's a cat not a cow. :D

Darin, watch out for us jokers.

Don't forget to fill out your profile, so that we can add context to your future posts. Also, once we know where you are geographically, you may find that you'll have a whole bunch of new dive buddies to choose from locally.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum. :palmtree: :sunny

Howdy!

Welcome to SB!!
:happywave Put us in your computer's favorites and check in often. This is a great place to learn, compare, argue :argue: Look around our various forums - everything from New-To-Scuba to Instructors-Only to Dive Medicine.

You want advice? Follow your training, even if the guide leads you otherwise. I think that AOW and Nitrox are nice extra cards to get. Always carry a Safety Sausage, a Storm Whistle, 2 CDs glued back to back for signaling, 4 weight belt keepers in your dive bag - even if your BC is integrated, and don't even wade without DAN insurance.

Does you wife want to do her own Intro, under her own Username...?

don

BTW - Did you set up your Profile? Some ideas for your Profle might be taken from looking at mine. Click on my Username to the upper left, then click on my Profile, and see what I've done. For your's, click the [CP] in the upper left of the screen, then click [Edit Profile]. If you need any help, PM me direct.

:D
