Hello there friends! I'm Bill, living in the Seattle, WA area (for about 5 years now), but spent about 10 years in So. California. I never dove until I got up here (pressure from the significant other). I just got certed in November of last year (darn it was cold)! I went to Cozumel and Grand Cayman diving in December and it was great for a first time (or any time). They tell me how great diving is up here in the Pacific NW, but it is just to cold for my weenie butt (about 42-47f).
So, I'll just keep planning three day weekend trips to Mexico and try to keep up with it. If anyone hears of a cool place on the Western side of Mexico, please let me know. I'm looking into Puerto Vallarta in May. Hope to chat with you all soon.

Hi Bill!

It took a drysuit with drygloves, battery heated thermal vest with 400gm thinsulate underjumpsuit and thick Hood -to fully appreciate the beautiful diving in the PNW USA/Vancouver Island Canada. And you know what? The invertebrate life at depth on the rock reefs & schooling fish , and on the wrecks (HMCS Saskatchewan, Columbia, Cape Breton) -the colors rival anything that I've seen over twenty years of travels in the Tropics -Caribbean or SE Asia. . . ! (That and the Road Trip four years ago with all my gear up I-5 from Los Angeles to Seattle/Vancouver City BC, and crossing the Salish Sea by ferry to motor way-up Vancouver Island to Port Hardy was one of my most fun highway sightseeing adventures experienced!)

For Western side of Mexico, try Baja Expeditions out of La Paz; or go far offshore to the Socorros Islands on a Liveaboard.

Welcome to Scubaboard!

I'm more concerned with why you get involved with people who prohibit you from diving, and worse yet you follow their commands.

Hey Bill! Welcome to the community. Diving in Cozumel and Grand Cayman sounds amazing, especially for a first-time experience! I totally get the cold water issue in the Pacific Northwest, but Puerto Vallarta sounds like a perfect spot for a warm getaway. I’ve heard great things about it definitely recommend checking it out.
