Here's a really silly question

You're at the end of your dive (say at 80 fsw for 32 minutes). You have a 2 minute deco stop. Then all of a sudden, you get hit by a spear from a spear gun. Do you blow your deco, deep and safety stops to surface, or do you risk DCS before you bleed to death?

hmmm.... well.... you know... the spear hitting you has caused a breach
in the circulatory system (one assumes), thus, creating a relief valve for any
bubble formation.

so i think your risk of DCS is actually nullified by the spear. if you
get hit by TWO spears, for sure no problem at all.

i would say blow your deco b/c all your bubbles will rush out the wound.

oh... of course, pull out the spear first, to make the hole nice and big

Let's say it's not an immediately fatal wound (why bother to surface if you're dead, right?), but all of a sudden, a bunch of sharks (what is the proper word for a whole heap of sharks?) start circling you because you smell real good to them. Oh, and your stupid buddy is off taking photos somewhere so s/he can't help.

id skip a 2 minn deco if i was impaled.. then when i was all better id be lookin for the guy with the spear gun. but odds are my dive buddy aka capt crazy would have already impailed the nameless spearfisherman

well, with that sort of bubble-release wound, i'd say terminate deco immediately.

of course, some DIR dudes are bound to insist you have to finish your deco,

that whole blow off valve idea of a wound wouldnt really work... at least i dont think so... if the N expands too quickly it gets stuck in the blood stream... unless of course it was an avid spearfisherman and he went straight for a major artery

i guess i should have mentioned the tanker taking off you head... yes that counts as a slighly differernt situation.... but could sufice for a major artery
