You may want to check out San Salvador in the Bahamas. Sharks on every dive that are not nearly as shy as T&C sharks. Also there are Hammerheads there that are very impressive in size. The overall diving is very similar to T&C but better.

San Salvador would be a good choice for the OP! Lots of sharks and non-stop flights from Montreal.

I have never heard St. Martin described as a great dive destination (?)

That's because it is definitely NOT a great dive destination.

Don't get me wrong, its a nice island with great beaches and culture. But the diving is rough (that's fine if there is something great to see below), visibility is not good typically (due to the rough), but worst of all the coral and fish life is just not that great (I suspect great beaches and coral reefs don't go together).

Come down to St Croix, we see sharks on a regular basis on our wall dives. If you want to target sharks, there are certain dives where it's almost a guarantee. Throw in turtles and the occasional eagle ray. The diving is easy and you can do boat or shore, wreck or reef, shallow or deep wall. The trench off the north shore is several thousand feet deep and the general vibe is laid back. It isn't a hot tourist destination as we don't have the all-inclusive resorts and you will have to carry your own gear to the boat.

Good suggestion. I dove there last year, and seen sharks on all but 1 dive. Also had an amazing dive where a single dolphin stayed with us the entire dive. Virtually no current, so the OP could continue working on skills. And the onsite dive shop are great people, highly recommend.

Another great shark location is Belize. 2 years ago, we did a trip to Lighthouse Reef, the furthest out atoll in Belize. (Where the Blue Hole is). But instead of a day trip as most people do the Blue Hole, we stayed at a small, (5 room) lodge on Long Cay. There is another resort on the same island that is larger, but all diving is thru the smaller op, Huracan Lodge. Similar to Riding Rock (above) it's like a land based live aboard. Wake up, eat something, dive, return to lodge, eat again, dive, eat, dive, dinner. All dives sites are 5-10 mins away. The Great Blue Hole is 15 mins away, (T-shirt dive). Easy diving, great atmosphere, wonderful food. Sharks on every dive. And they are not shy.
