St. John has the nicest beaches in the Caribbean, with Provo a close second. Also plenty of night life on both and pretty decent diving. And can also be done VERY nicely for 5000

Jennifer --- I don't think that's correct (as a matter of fact, I know its not). We're going for 12 nights (plus travel time) for just over $5k inclusive. Most of the expense is in airfare, which you can get from the east coast (flying east) for about $1200 pp if you look for it. Room and board and xfers came to an extra $3k for a total of about 5400, but, then again, that is the low season (expect an easy %50 more for US fall/winter rates).

How is the diving in Bora Bora? -- I had heard some discouraging things. . .

I would be very surprised by that, I've checked in the Maldives many times. Usually using Emirates air out of JFK...alway around $1400-1500...Usually what I found it to be for just me was around $3000 total ...not including any meals or such. Sounds like you got quite a deal.

Bora Bora is very nice, mostly hard corals..not a whole lot of color, but still plenty of stuff to look at. LOTS of sharks, turtles, rays, Napoleons...Mostly large animals, not a lot of Macro. The hotels are all fantastic..I don't think anyone would be disappointed, especially for a honeymoon. It would be much better than the Caribbean, but the price is considerably more.

yep -- pretty good deal. We certainly couldn't get that rate in November, but its do-able offseason with some research. We'll be diving with ProDivers in Komandoo -- if you look to Keredu (same atoll) you can probably save a few $$$$, but apparrently get less atmosphere. In any event, congrats to the lucky couple.

Also, how about Aruba (beach, casinos, etc.), with a few days on Bonaire (no beach, just 24/7 diving. . . .)?

My (new) wife and I are trying to plan our honeymoon. We are having trouble deciding and since this is where I frst found out about Cozumel I thought I would again turn to the experts. We obviously want to dive but, she doesn't want it to only be about diving. We love Cozumel but, she wants to try something new. I'm all for this so it's open season. Where would you guys go for a romantic, diving, beach relaxing getaway? We would like to keep it under $5000. We are looking to travel anytime between March and the middle of June.
Thanks for your help.
Joe

Take Jet Blue out to Bermuda...:D

Playa del Carmen could be good. There are very some very cool hotels there for reasonable prices. You fly into Cancun, so the airfare should not be bad. Check out a hotel called Mosquito Blue or Hotel La Tortuga. There are plenty of good restaurants, a nice beach, and, oh yeah, DIVING! You can take the ferry over to Coz for a day or two.

St. Lucia would be an excellent place for a honeymoon, it's a gorgeous island with some nice resorts and pretty good diving. I recommend Anse Chastenet Resort. The drawback is that it can be expensive.

For close to $5000 you may be able to go to Thailand, talk about exotic. The main cost is getting there but once you are there it is really inexpensive. Couple days in Bangkok then down to Phuket or Koh Sumai/Koh Tao areas.

We Honeymooned on Maui in 2000 and it couldn't have been more perfect (well... only if I had been OW certified back then.)

Plenty to do topside... very clean, pretty island... wonderful beaches.

I did some diving off the Big Island in 2005 and it was wonderful. The fish down there are just unbelievable ... and the water is crystal clear.
