I am looking at a used tank online & the seller gave me the following code:
OT-3AA2250, 825501, 10MP83, 90784, 6S78
Maybe too much sugar this week, but I have not been able to decipher this tank code. Any help from the more lucid among us would be greatly appreciated.:D
Also, he said the last vis was in 92...should I run?
Thanks

steel tank 2250 psi, 825501?, hydro oct of 83, 90784?, 78cuft?

vis doesn't mean much, it needs to be hydro tested though...how much, is it local or will you have to pay shipping?

The first numbers really are:
DOT-3AA 2250

That is a steel tank with a working pressure of 2250 psi.

It is probably a steel 72 cu ft (at 10% overfill, 2475 psi)

The first hydro probably was in June of 1978. He probably can't read it but I bet there is a + stamp next to that hydro.

The other numbers kind of look like they may be other hydro dates. At least one is the serial number, but it is hard to tell how he is reading them.

The tank may be in good shape or not... Hard to tell.
I would not touch it if it was not galvanized and unless it was real cheep I would want to see the inside before I buy any tank.

You will have to spend money on hydro and VIP. I would make the sell contingency of passing both.

Thanks David
The shipping is only $30, I am not sue how much he would take, I was hoping to get a larger tank than a 78 though...

OT-3AA2250
= chrome moly steel with a working pressure of 2250 psi

825501 and 90784
are probably on the same row and combine to form a serial number

is probably on top of
These are hydro dates with a company symbol in between

Based on working pressure and age there's a 99+% probability of it being a steel 72. If its galvanized and dry inside its good. If its painted or vinyl coated skip it, not worth the 6 or more hours effort to strip the old coating, VIP, and 'cold' galvanize it and make it usable.

david p......90784?, ...............zip code???.....lol...................GEAUX TIGERS.................

Thanks everyone for the help. I think I'll pass (just bought a bp/w today:D:D:D). If anyone else is interested, it's on ebay the seller is taking best offers & said he really wants to sell it. May be a good buy...
