Help to ID Catalina fish!

In the midst of all the Garibaldis and Sheepheads on Catalina was this red fish with blue spots....what fish is it?

Without a doubt. Conventional wisdom is that the juvenile coloration prevents adults from harrassing the juvies. However, decades of observation by yours truly suggests it isn't much of a deterent!

Thanks for the explanation Dr Bill...you have some great diving and people on your island...had a huge sea bass following me around for about 10-15 min.
