Hi ... I am new to scuba diving and I need some help in selecting scuba gear. I am presently training with borrowed fins but would like to buy my own.

I need a fin that would give me speed under water. I am in fairly good physical condition so I dont think I would exhaust easily. Money is not an issue because when it comes to diving fins I wanna invest in something good.

The two models that I have been looking at are:

1) TUSA Liberator X (http://www.divebooty.com/equipment_details.asp?pid=3398)

2) Dacor Black Tiger (http://www.divedacor.com/fins-blacktiger.html)

Has anyone used these? Which one would you experienced divers go for if you were me?

I would suggest the good old standby: Scubapro Jet Fins. They are a great fin, good for all types of kicks, provide good thrust, pretty inexpensive comparatively. Plus if you get into more advanced technical type of diving, you'll find them very popular among that crowd.

What exactly is the hyype around Dacor Tiger? I have seen it rated as #1 fin in the fin review of various magazines etc. How is it supposed to be different than other ones?

MY first and only pair of fins I've purchased are the TUSA's you've got pictured. I've never had any problems with them, plus I can frog kick & back-up in them, but they are a little weak for backing up.

That being said, I only paid 20 bucks for them. I'd consider what you want in a fin...try a few out, and purchase.

I've made a decision that my next purchase will be the SP Jets when I get around to purchasing.

Jets or Quatros

Jets, Quattros..........and oh, I also like my Volos which are the original version of the Tigers. They are not what I would define as a "fast" fin. They are certainly easy on your legs.

If you really want a "speed" fin, I would go with a Mare's Quattro or, if you REALLY want speed, a long free diving fin. Jets are not a speed fin, they're more of a control fin. The TUSA's you listed are decent for standard recreational diving but are certainly not a speed fin.

I'd recommend Scuba Pro jet fins also. Fins are such a personal preference so it's really up to your style. All the fins are pretty good but some are more hype to get more $ out of you. You probably don't want to be a sucker. Of course, you're not a sucker if your really prefer the design of a fin. But it sounds like you don't know your style just yet.

The reason why I recommend these fins is that if you are not sure what you want, these are a good way to go. Lots of people like these fins so they're easy to sell off if you decide another fin entices you more. They're easy to put on and off, excellent control in the water, super kick efficiency and will last forever. It's my favorite fin on the market.
