Diver Lori:
She immediately stops chatting and exclaims "oh my God!" She recovers quickly and apologizes for her outburst and explains she had never seen a reaction to scop like this before.

I do believe I would poop my pants if a doctor ever said something like that while I was in the chair or on the table. That reminds of an old Bill Cosby routine where the surgeon says "Forceps...scalpel...oops..." :11:

OOOPS!?!?

grunzter,

Ask your family doctor about a prescription drug called ondansetron or Zofran. It's used as an anti-nausea drug for cancer patients getting chemotherapy as well as for post-anesthesia nausea. It's WAY expensive but one hell of a drug with very few side effects or interactions with other drugs.

DDD

I use the patch, and I had to get a physical. Now all I do is call my Doc and he fills the Rx.

A friend of mine would take triptone the night before and the morning of. He also would eat several antacid tablets just before getting on the boat. I have never tried it, but he swears by it????

I tried triptone and bonine for dive trips (take the night before
and early the morning of the dive) and fed the fishes everytime I was on the boat and it wasn't moving forward. I can't take Dramamine (either kind) because they render me asleep or a total zombie. I called my doc and went in to see him and he gave me the transderm scop patches.

I have to say I was skeptical but I tested them on the 4th of July weekend on boat rides and had no bad reactions, only the dry throat after about the 2nd day.

I tried them in Key Largo this past week for 5 days of diving and not only did I not get sick I didn't get the naseau I usually do at all. The dry mouth gets pretty tough after 3 days, but it is better than hanging over the side of the boat during every SI.

If you are always sick on the boat, talk to your doc, or do the urgent care thing as suggested above. This was very worth it for me, I'm not sure I could have stuck it out diving if I could only ever do shore dives.

Hope you have good luck with whatever a doc recommends, but get in and see a doc! :)

No longer green!

Ok my turn to vent again!!!

After waiting over a month for my appointment I finally get to see the doctor. Everything goes ok, then I mention the prescription.

Before I can even get the words out of my mouth, she brings up the patch. Ok, but I'd like to try the new pill form of the patch. From what I've heard it's just as effective, but side effects aren't as severe. NO PROBLEM!

Drop off my prescription and head off to work. Later last night I pick it up. Get home and decide to take a look at instructions, etc.

MECLIZINE 25MG TABLET

What the $@%$$$!!!

As far as I know Trans Derm Scop is th only patch out there? The active ingredient is scopolamine. I beleive the pill form is called Scopace?

Even if I'm wrong meclizine is the active ingredient in Bonine, which I already have and took last time when I chummed! AND 25mg is the same does as in Bonine! Why the hell would you write a prescription so I can go pay twice as much for the exact same stuff I can get over the counter?

Arrrrrrrrrrgggggggggg!!!
