Ok it's a little odd my question.. I'm actually asking for my sister who is not so knowledgeable in picking her gear.. actually am not so comfy in suggesting what brand for her to use.. I want to be more informed.. anyway so guys... need your inputs on the following regs.. My sister is a way better diver than me and have logged 100 dives but will just buy her gear now.. go figure..

Anyway here are he choices..

Apeks ATX 100/200 which is better?

DiveRite RG2500/ 1208 and/ or the hurricane.. which is better

Finally of both brand which is best? There is a budget for the reg.. about 600dollars..

She'll be deciding soon and I need to make sure that she gets the best one..

Also as told in thread; AquaLung offers free octo in USA (for Apeks they give "Egress" octopus for free)

It's a mater of opinion I like my 2500 Dive Rite like the add in the Magazine says When Your A&& is On the Line. (You don't need to worry about Your Equipment)

I don't think you will go wrong with any of these choices. If it were me I would probably pick the one that you have the best support on from your local shop. I have sold a good many of the diverite and have had no complaints.

Brent,
In the overall sceme of equiptment you are 100% correct.
I do believe local support/service should be the most important thing when it comes to equiptment.
Most companies make good products. People's opinions based on "what I have is best" don't really hold alot of air. Facts are very few if any people have died from equiptment failure due to a defective product. Some absolutely do function better.
Fact is most people never get any where near to capacity or maximum ablility of their equiptment.

I agree completely. Easy availability of competent service is most important. Also, the "I dive such and such regulator and it is wonderful" attitude that is pervasive on boards is meaningless without stated qualifiers. Most divers are indeed "overregulatored". But, if having a regulator whose ability far exceeds its owners needs bolsters confidence, who am I to argue. After all, buying a $700 regulator when a $300 one would be more than sufficient is good for the economy.

I do belive in having a very good regulator to use as it gives you an added safety margin. However he has limited his choices to a few of the better regs on the market. I personally dive the dive rite hurricane. It is a great regulator as are all the diverite regs. There are alot of companies that make great regs, and only a few that makes poor ones. Even the poor ones should be Ok for most uses.

Some regs come with some pretty good perks such as diverite which does lifetime parts replacement as long as you get the reg serviced on schedule, Aeris does this too. I'm not familiar with other companies as far as this.

In my store I carry diverite, Aeris, Salvo, and Tusa regs and have had no complaints on any of them.

You rsister will be happy with any of the regs mentioned above, they'er all high performers. Like Brent said, your best move would be to get the brand most locally supported.
I dive apeks myself and can tell you that there's really not much difference between the atx 100 and 200.
