Greetings to fellow scuba fanatics...does anyone have any suggestions regarding RX lenses for masks? I have read not to use dive shops because they don't have specific RX, just magnified lenses like you would get at walmart....any suggestions?:crafty:

Welcome to Scuba Board, Scubanut101.

I wear contacts and my LDS recommended a mask where if I decide to put my prescription in the lens I can bring it into the optometrists and have it done. If I decide not to I can still use the mask as is and wear my contacts. Not all masks can be turned into presciption masks. Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Welcome to SB. Darn, I don't have the name of the place in San Diego that makes prescription lenses for dive masks. If I happen to find it, I'll post it. Have you done a Google search (or one on this site) for something like "dive mask" "prescription lenses?"

that is not true i have an rx mask and you can get your prescription just takes a week the only downfall is it is in increments of .50, my left eye is -1.5 and my right is -1.25 so i had to go with both -1.5 because -1 was too weak i have no complaints about it can see just fine

I have the same type mask your talking about. Both eyes -1.50 which is pretty close. I'm really -1.5 and -1.75. The problem is reading the computer are using my camera. Since I'm old I wear progressive lenses. It has to be held at arms lenght. Plus not perfect.

Regular contacts do the same as the "dive shop" lenses.

The next thing for others like myself are the new multi focal contacts almost the best of both worlds! (that said because to balance they aren't the best on either end, but real close)

Then would come the full blown optical mask which you have to call around to do or some manufactures will put your PX in their mask. I believe Mares, Oceanic, Cressi-Sub all do. Theres probally alot more. Don't qoute me here. You can go to their forums here on ScubaBoard and ask.

Good Luck! :crafty:

I think I saw that optical place in sandiego that you referred to. I think it was them that I e-mailed and they were very expensive, I will go to google and search it some more
Thanks

Hey you don't necessarily have to br old to wear progressiv lenses, I wear them too, and I am 43,
thats not too old is it??? Just messin with you...I can do okay without the distance it is a problem when I can't see my gauges, I have to get my husband attention when we dive and have him check them, I have been using thos stick in lenese, and they work okay but I have lost several in the water adn probably could have bought a new mask with RX now, Thanks for the response back. I have doing some checking on it and just thought I would check and see of ther was divers that had already RX put in their mask and what their experience was before spending the money.
Thanks your time is appreciated

So you did get RX lenses from the dive shop? That does seem to be most economical way to go, but if the lenses are true RX and not magnifiers I should check it out.
Hey thanks for the reply
