hello
I was certified back in 1977. I have not dived since 1979. :snorkel: I will be taking an open water class in about 1 month to get recertified. The classes they offer now are alot different than what I did. We learned night, wreck, rescue, rebreather, etc. From what I can remember we were trained for anything to 130 feet. There is alot of new gear and technology that I need to relearn. I dont know whether to get a split fin or stay with my old US Divers Rocket fin. :banging: And then theres those new snorkles. I think I want the old fashioned fat tube type

And Welcome to the Party Line!!

"We learned night, wreck, rescue, rebreather, etc. " Man, that was some training. All that, and you dropped out for 24 years?

The intro course is neat. You may remember some of it, but a lot of it has changed...??

the rebreather stuff we learned was from the first ones made. Maybe WWII era. Its nothing like the rebreathers they have now. We didn't do in water training with it. we just learned enough to warn us to stay away from them unless we were fully trained. The type they had was basically a ruberized canvas (white/tan) like vest (like a BC) that had a small bottle of air (pure oxygen?????) straped to the bottom, and some kind of chemical pellets that either absorbed the CO2 or converted it back to oxygen. the rebreather was all manually operated. after a short time you had to release the air in the vest than refill it from the bottle. Maximum depth was only 30 ft. the rebrethers now are way different. If I find my old diving book there might be a picture of one in it.

I found some pics on the net of the type

the rebreathers looked like these
