Hello TheBlonde,

welcome (Scub)aBoard! :happywave
I like your username... :D

Laurens
That's probably what the locals call her. :smiliee: I'll bet that there are men my age (old) there who have never seen one.

Don't settle for the Resort course. Do your homework, get certified, and tell us about your trip when you get back. :cheering:

Actually the locals here call me Miss Amy or Mama. Everyonce in a while I do hear someone say "The Blonde". The locals here are very curious about me and of course are not sure how to take me. Being Blonde hair, blue eyed and fair skinned.

I am actually already scheduled to do a 4 tank dive after I am certified.

Hmmmm, Iraq is sounding more appealing all the time :D

it all depends on what you are refering too. If you are into being in a war zone, then ya I can see were it would be interesting....LOL

Whats not to like, Blue eyed blonde girls, dodging bullets and sand everywhere....

Hello to everyone out there. Working in Iraq you tend to to want to try new things and travel to places you never thought you would ever go. My new adventure is SCUBA diving. I have decided that instead of thinking about I am going to do it. I am an information junkie and before I take to my adventure I am wanting to just get as much information from the SUBA community as I can. I will be going to Fiji in November and I have already signed up for a PADI Open Water Certification. The resort that I am staying at (and I have this on very good authority) is the best for this kind of thing. So is there anyone out there that as some advice for this newbie? Would love to hear from you!!!!!!
theblonde, Welcome to SB! Never been to Fiji but the folks here say you'll be spoiled. What's wrong with that?! Lucky you! Just means you'll probably dive everywhere else only once. (gotta try them ALL at least once!) Information junkie? You landed in the right place, for sure. Advice for the newbie? Study the books, learn the material before you get to class. There are no stupid questions, ask your instructor to review anything you don't understand. Make sure you get it. Confined water dives, mask removal/replacement is just about the worst. Once you do it, the rest seems easy. Practice, practice, practice! Safety is the #1 concern. You have to keep a level head in the event of a minor issue so it doesn't become a major problem. (panic is the enemy) Be prepared to see the world in a whole new light... it will now revolve around SCUBA. You'll think about it when you're awake and dream about it when you sleep. You'll spend lots of money and might even look for a new source of income! When buying your gear, try lots of different brands/types. Fit and comfort are very important. There's lots of input from ScubaBoard on this subject. I'm sure I've left something out, if I covered everything, I'd be here all day!!! Post questions on SB, someone here will have an answer for you. We love the newbies! BTW, The diving "bug" is a permanent infliction... there is no cure, only therapy (diving, of course!) Oh yeah, one more thing... my birthday is in November... TAKE ME! TAKE ME! I wanna go to Fiji!!! Once again, welcome to SB, you're gonna love it here! :dazzler1:

Dodging the bullets are fine. I am far enough away from that, I just don't care for the mortars or rockets that come are way.

It just occured to me, the title of this thread sounds like an episode of Friends :11:

You are more then welcome to come to Fiji I will be at the Tobeura resort. LOL Happy Brithday waaaaaaay early......LOL

I can see were this can get a little costly. The only reason I can afford this is the fact I work overseas and my company pays for my Flights when I go on R&R. :D
I have been looking at the equipment and it is quite an investmnet, but it will be worth it. I am the adventours type, I have this list of things that I want to do and have most of it marked off, except for skydiving and scuba diving. Gotta try everything at least once! You never know what you will find....

I think this is how I ended up in Iraq..... :ne_nau:

Thanks for the info

I am still working sorting it out over here, but know 2000 years of history is a little hard to fight with.
