Great news about mentoring a new diver! I'm sure they're excited about getting their gear dialed in. Diving rental gear is convenient, but it's so much nicer having your own stuff when you're ready. I'm not familiar with the diving up in Sonoma County. Happy to join you both for dives.

Urchin collection sounds like something I would be interested in, as well. I know I could probably Google this, but how do you go about getting a license?
I think it's just a regular fishing license. You can get an annual for $50 or ones that last a few days for like $20. Those urchin cleanup days do look interesting, though I'm not sure I can justify a whole weekend of diving right now.
