I am new to diving and seeking information.

1. Where do I go for reviews on equipments?
2. What are some good online shops?
3. Are there other message boards?

Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Seems like there are lots of folks from the DC metro area on here:). I am fairly new too - hope that you find the info here as useful as I have. Depending on exactly where you are in NoVA there should be a club near you - check out http://www.atlanticunderwater.com/shops/ for links to local shops that may sponsor clubs or other activities.

Here's another board for your perusal:

Welcome to SB.

In the way of tips, let me offer two. First, fill out your profile. It will help people to answer your questions in a meaningful way if they know more about you and the diving you do (or would like to do). It lends context to your questions.

Second, on the control bar just below where it says "Welcome, Norboo" etc. at the top of this page, the third button from the right is "Search". If you click on it, you can click on 'Advanced Search'. This allows you to search past threads on internet sales outlets, specific items of equipment, and general questions that come up pretty frequently. You may have to wade through some threads, but you'll be able to find out quite a bit of past answers.

Have fun and dive safe.

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest! Be sure to check out our Dive Cliubs around you there.

Completing your Profile and seperately - keeping your Dive Info up to date helps in future diving discussions. You can use the Quick Links menu above for this. PM me if I can help you learn your way around.

:sunny Hi there Norboo! Welcome to Scuba Board! My name is Matt. I came here looking for help with my diving dream. I’ve met a lot of nice divers and many helpful divers too. I think you will get the information you need from SB. I look forward to reading more of your posts about your diving adventures. If you’d like to chat, please PM me.

Take care from Matt. :scubadive

Heya and welcome to the Board, look like you've got a bunch of great suggestions already.

Best wishes,

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

This is a great place to find all of the information you are asking for. However, here is what you ask for:

Reviews - Try our forums under The Equipment of Scuba Diving for a good amount of discussion on gear.

You could also try http://www.scubadiving.com/ for equipment reviews. Some think that the reviews there are biased, but you can decide that for yourself. I looked into your profile and don't really know what kind of diving you do. If you are a technical diver this probably won't be a very helpful site. If you are a recreational diver you may like it.

Online shops - http://www.scubatoys.com/

They are authorized dealers of everything they sell and I understand that their customer service is excellent.

Other message boards - here are a few depending on your needs:

http://www.scubadivernet.com/
http://www.thedecostop.com/
http://www.thedecostop.com/

Don't forget to fill out your profile and dive info, so that we can add context to your future posts. Also, once we know where you are geographically, you may find that you'll have a whole bunch of new dive buddies to choose from locally.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.
