just had a life changing experience in nassua.
after a great day of deep sea fishing, my buddy and I decide to try something new. we go down to the hotel pool and sign up for a day of diving. after a 10 minute intro to diving course ( which consisted of putting on a mask and breathing underwater, pressing the button to clear water out of the reg and doing arm swings to find all those tube things hanging all over the place) we found ourselves on a dive boat.

first dive was 40ft- seeing the world under the ocean for the first time in person was truly incredible. learned alot about diving during that 40 minutes.

second dive was 70 ft- it was in an area that some of the boats feed the sharks for tourists and also had the front of a freighter and a movie prop of a viking ship-- we got visited by six or seven reef sharks- one of them actually bumped me- and had one HUGE bull shark come in and get to within 8 or so feet of us. also was pointed out a flounder resting on the bottom, found a sharks tooth (which i am getting made into a necklace) and a mask and snorkel..

i will be getting certified in a couple weeks here-- i cant wait to actually learn what i was doing down there

i dont know if it was the thrill of a new experience or the thrill of surviving stupidity but---
i am seriously hooked!!!! we are already planning our next trip!

great and very informative board- i will be trying to find information on good dives around minnesota
i will also be getting my own equipment and also investing in a real camera-- i thought i got some pretty good shots with the disposable, but after seeing the incredible pics here-------

Two things, glad you survived and glad you are getting certified. Now you will learn everything you didnt get the chance to in 10Min. Im sure you will look back on your dives and say "thank goodness I made it back". Welcome!

Hey MnDive, Welcome to ScubaBoard and I'm glad you are getting certified. You will learn just how dangerous what you did was. But you are now hooked, and with a state that boasts of what is it, over ten thousand lakes, should be easy enough to find someplace to dive locally.

Yep, that's how I got hooked - resort diving except I went to 100 feet. :11: Didn't see any sharks on my resort dive, though. Bull sharks have a repuation of being a little dangerous on the surface, but overall - more people die chocking on ballpoint pens than from shark. I'm not avoiding either one.

Be sure to check out our :newbie: forum: New Divers & Those Considering Diving and don't feel bad about your photos. They were done by you, and are your's to prove you have done something most only dream about or see on screen. Have fun getting certified, and beyond...

Hey MnDive!! Another Mid-Westerner - well, I was originally but it's simply too far from the ocean! Where in Mn are you from?

Welcome to SB and look forward to seeing you around :)
