I just finished my confined water class today unfortunately I can not attend the open water in two weeks so I have to wait till the end of June=( I feel very comfortable in the confined water, but I have a fear of going doing my open water dive I realize it isn't that much deeper than the pool, but the unknowns, is there any suggestions or ideas that might help me because I really had a blast in my class.

i would say, if you are comfortable in confirmed pool, you would be thrilled at open water. nothing really unknown. you won't find any unexpected objects lying around except beautiful corals and such.
one suggestion is that you have a plan of your dive. example. what u want to see ? NEMO ? go find nemo.

bubbles are forever

I would suggest reading over you training materials before the open water dives, practice assembling/disassembling your gear, and you'll be fine. Don't worry, be happy. ;)

Also, check out the Great Lakes Wrecking Crew here under "clubs" to find other divers in your area.

Welcome to the board! No worries, It won't be much different.

Once you get through the skills and actually just get to enjoy diving, it's all worth it. Try to not worry too much. If you do, you end up let all sorts of scenarios run through your head that won't happen.

Relax, listen, relax, then do.

Ahoy there scubalobo! Welcome to the board!! Feel free to jump in anywhere and ask questions or just leave your 2psi. :D You may be intersted in the forums under The Art of Scuba Diving. Under that heading you'll find New to Scuba, Dive into Fitness, Public Safety and many more that as you become involed with the sport may or may not interest you depending upon where your intersts grow.

Another forum area that may interest you is the Scuba Board Clubs section of the board where many of us coordinate meeting up for dives, getting together, trips around the state to different dive sites, and some general prattle about diving with others from our state/regions.

In regards to those open water dives - nothing anyone says can really ever put aside those fears. I'll be honest, I've been doing this most of my life and I still get that little bit of anxiety (maybe its just excitement) when I look at the water and get the gear on.... right up to the point I roll off the boat, giant stride, or walk into the water! Once I break the surface, that little anxiety butterfly in my stomach melts away and I'm totally at home. That "fear of the unknown" will go away for you as well.. trust yourself, trust your instructor, and trust your buddy. Do things nice and slow and deliberate, like when the 6 million dollar man when he was doing that bionic thing. :)

Thanks for signing up, we look forward to diving with you soon! :D

Welcome to the Scuba Board! With you open water dives coming up, just take your time and use your training. You'll do fine. I sort of had the same type of problem and just went and did it and haven't looked back, except maybe to see that big fish coming up! lol

Your OW will be over before you know it! Once you see the fish and underwater life, you will wonder why you didn't take up diving sooner and the skills will be essentially the same as the ones that you didn in the pool.

Have fun and join us in the Great Lakes Wrecking Crew portion of the board! We can help you find dive buddies and good places to dive.
