My wife and I were certified May 2003 (Blue Dolphin Scuba, Frisco) for Western Carribbean Disney Cruise last July. Highly recommended if you have kids. We did 2 tank excursion in Grand Cayman and 2 tank in Cozumel. Like Cozumel the best (Paradise Reef and Tormentos). We did not go to planned site because of hurricane coming in the next day.

I just did weekend trip to Flower Gardens out of Freeport, Texas 3/20. 7 Dives in two days available http://www.gulf-diving.com on the Spree. Freedom with dive profiles, currents. Working on AOW.

We are going to Cancun this summer on family donated timeshare. Still want to dive though and doing some research here on luggage, dive ops, cenotes, transport, etc.

Regards,
Jim

Welcome to the boards Jim.

Be sure to keep an eye on the Texas Swamp Diver section and come dive with us when you can. You are welcome to bring your wife along too.

Glad to have you,

Thanks.

Now that I have experienced the trip, I might bring my wife along if during Aug-Sept time frame. She is a little shakey so likely NOT any time soon. I may book the Sept trip myself though. I am going to try and get her confidence up at Athens and Cancun this summer. Might get in some time in NC as well.

I still like to dive with her though because she is conscientious and sticks close to me. I read an awful post about a guy in Mexico who abandoned his buddy and followed the DM who had a broken guage and almost had a disaster. Also, diving with a stranger at FG was a little difficult and I spent extra time keeping track of my buddy.

I can see your point of view on the potential dangers there. I was somewhat conservative and probably missed out on some of the ray and shark sightings, but came back in one piece.

Congratulations on getting certified and making the trips. If you want to expose your wife to more diving and get her more comfortable, I recommend Clear Springs Scuba Park in Terrell. I find the visibility consistently better than Athens and there are fish to watch. Like Athens, it is open only to divers and swimmers.

Good luck.
