Hey Sean,

BigRed? As in University of Nebraska?

I checked out Padi.com for PADI shops in your area...there aren't any :)

In Fredericksburg you kind of have a choice...go south to Richmond or north to DC. As for south DC shops: Splash Dive Center (http://www.splashdivecenter.com) is the one I'm most familiar with and would recommend. My wife is also a newly minted PADI Open Water Instructor. If you're looking for a private lesson PM me and I'll find out what she'd charge.

Sean,

I can recommend Virginia Scuba (http://www.virginiascuba.com/index.html) since that is where I received my training. They are in Manassas near the Nissan Pavillion and about 10-15 min from Millbrook, which is the quarry everyone in this area does their open water checkout dives. The pool sessions are held at the Freedom Center which is on the George Mason Manassas Campus about 5-10 mins away. Everything is very convenient to their shop. There are many routes from Fredricksburg to Manassas that don't involve getting in I-95. Check out the website and give them a call.

Others in the area are:

The Dive Shop in Fairfax http://www.thediveshop-va.com/ near Vienna Metro station
Adventure Scuba in Chantilly http://www.scubava.com/index.html near 50/28

Hey Guys.

I've been lurking for a awhile, but other than a "Discover Scuba" class, I'm a non-diver. I plan to start an open-water class either this month or next depending if/when I can find someone to join me.

Can anybody recommend a good instructor in my area?

-Sean

Welcome to the Board, My Names Jason and I'm new to this thing as well. I am taking my OW next week as a matter of fact. And looking forward to it. PM me soon and maybe we can get together. I don't think I am that far away from you. I live in Altavista, VA.

Hope to hear from you this week.

Sigh. It's been over a year since I started this thread...

I finally got around to taking the pool portion my OW class this past weekend. Overall, I had a pretty good time. The skills were all easy, although I had problems with proper weighting and my mask fogging up. I'm not sure when I'm going to do my checkout dives - possibly next weekend at Millbrook.

Thanks for all the replies.

-Sean
