Hi, everyone! I just found this board, and am so glad I did!

I live in Michigan, and my husband and I are planning on taking a 12-day trip to the Cook Islands in March. We really want to learn to scuba dive while we are there, so we are taking a four-day class while there to get our PADI open water certification. We are SO excited! This is the place we're using, which came highly recommended by the lady we're renting a house from on the island: http://www.diverarotonga.com/

Anyway, it's nice to meet you all, and I'm looking forward to learning a lot from everyone here :)

Welcome to SB! Nice to meet you too. There's definitely a lot you can learn from here on the board. Man, you found us just in time too. SB will be your best friend while the ants in your pants drive you nuts 'til March! (or should I say, scuba bug bites) Good luck with your class and have a great vacation!

Why not do your certification now, before it gets cold there, then a refresher couse on vacation? You'll learn a lot more too....

:diver:Hi there Sanveann, My name is Matt. Welcome to the Board! You should enjoy it here, you will find lots of information about diving. You can also meet many nice people too. Have a fun time here. and Safe Diving. :jump013:

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Unfortunately, money is a bit tight right now (mostly because we're GOING on this trip, LOL!), so we really can't afford to take classes here for awhile. Since we'll be on Rarotonga for 10 days and Aitutaki for two, though, I'm sure we'll still have plenty of time for diving. I'm so looking forward to it ... we leave exactly six months from today!

Welcome to the board and good luck on your trip.. Just remember after you become souly addicted to scubs diving, the initial cost is the worst....

if you buy a whole set of gear (x2 when it's a couple). BE YE warned!!!.......It's very easy to be so addicted, you want one of EVERYTHING! (make that 2) You have six months, hang around SB. Read up on opinions of equipment. Consider there are moderate differences according to your dive locations. Mostly exposure suits (colder water, thicker wetsuit) but there are different masks, fins, BCDs, etc. Scuba gear will last for years if you take care of it. Fit and comfort are very important, try a variety, rent/ dive with a few different brands, make sure when you buy, you'll be glad you took your time. Feel free to post questions if there's anything you think SB can help you with. No doubt, you'll be impressed with the number of folks here willing to help! Consider it your pre-dive trip, pre-dive class edjumucation! :D
