@Grant Carruthers hey fellow st louisian!

After my boy was certified @10 we dove the jetties (shore dive) at St Andrews state park (Panama City, fl). Can get down to 70' if you go far enough - but easy dive to 30-40'. Vis can be good but was not great - but lots of little stuff (fish, crabs, even tiny corals and anemones) to look at and some fish schools. We also dove off of Tampa area (tarpon springs) @12 - long way out to go 30' on bridge rubble - again vis was not great but decent enough (compared to quarry) - saw Goliath groupers and lots of other fish. My boy liked both. We will be going back and diving the jetties again in july (with both boys - 11 and 13 this summer). The inside of the jetties is < 10' and is good for snorkeling looking at small/baby fish/crabs, etc. It sometimes has stinging jellyfish that took 20 minutes to convince my boy to get back in the water.

I haven't been to the keys, but if you can make it, it should be (as others have said) better than the above locations.

Thanks so much for all the recommendations! Greatly appreciated
