I'm researching for my friends. They are U.S. citizens and have a contract with a foreign cruise ship company. They want medical insurance for under $500/mo so they can go to routine doctor visits when abroad. They are entertainers, one of them is a diver however their schedule doesn't allow for much scuba diving. DAN insurance doesn't cover routine office visits. Suggestions or research threads very much appreciated!! Their current medical insurance covers catastrophic claims only, so they need other options. Thankyou!!

If they're working on ships, their medical needs should be covered. At least mine we're for the most part. The only thing I had to pay for were a new pair of glasses, which I still received a massive crew discount on (never bought a pair of glasses with crizal alize lenses for less than $300). Ships medical should take care of booking any shoreside medical appointments needed.

There are a ton of plans out there. Problem is, they typically won't cover you when in the states.

Hi Rivers, Thank you for your reply. My friends cruise ship company must not offer it, because they asked me to do some research. You may know then that internet time on the ship is expensive so I volunteered to research for them. As I mentioned in my OP, the catastrophic is the only one offered.
Thanks!!!
Deb

An international plan for expat types may be something to look into to. Citizen Secure is a good option that will also include coverage in the US.
