IMO you'll do yourself a big favor by hiring a dive guide for your first few shore dives. Not only will they be able to help you with where the best entries are, but also show you some of the endemic creatures that only Hawaii has to offer. I think that people who shore dive on their own without prior experience in Hawaii short change themselves.
