Don't do it! The plastic buckle is a piece of crap! Get either the wire bail buckle or the mako belt. You don't want plastic buckle, they won't last, will get cracked, will loosen up with use etc. etc. The other two types of buckles may look strange but they are far superior!

Thanks, will do.

Be careful using a steel QR buckle with a rubber belt. I got the OMER mimetic from LeisurePro. It did not release reliably. I use a Marsellaise. I modified the OMER belt after looking at DumpsterDiver's rubber belt with nylon webbing attached at the end that slides through the steel QR buckle. I will post picks of both belts later.

i never thought about the belt constricting your breathing before.
i have a nylon belt and wire buckle from 40 years ago i got from my father, and after a dive after all the constant tightening, i come out of the water looking like a supermodel.
how do you keep it on your hips? wont it just slip off and wont that constrict the movement of your hips?

I second Akimbo's Marseille belt recommendation. I use a Rob Allen version of the same belt, and am very happy with it.

I'm new to this site and I can't post frick'n URL's yet, so hang with me.

I found this the other day and I want one (I have a belt already I just need the strap):
sporasub(dot)com/belts.html?lingua=ING

I have found the whole system at Leisurepro and Austin's:
austinsdiving(dot)com/proddetail.php?prod=SPBE1000I

90 bucks seem a bit high, but hey if it works. I already use the Marseille belt, which in my opinion is the only way to go but the strap would make life easier. I also like the safety feature of releasing the buckle and the strap at the same time.

This is the way to go......

The top Marsellaise belt is a Spetton or one I got from the Freedive Shop in Sacramento. FreeDiveShop.com I just get the thickest rubber so the TinMan pinch weights do not slide.

The bottom belt is an XSSCUBA pouch weight belt with a rubber belt and steel buckle. The rubber belt is attached to one end of the buckle. For the end that slides through the buckle clamp, there is a length of nylon webbing that is attached to the rubber belt with 2 DiveRite belt slides.

This is my variation on DumpsterDiver's idea of having a rubber belt with 2" nylon webbing on the ends for the steel buckle.
