Now lets not scare njdiver from going to AKR over a few flights of stairs. The children will be most dissapointed.

Most guests stay on the Key, just a water taxi ride from the dock. Sure, you need to go up and down stairs to eat but not immediately before or after diving. AKR is a very good all inclusive dive resort.

It is very well run, the boats and equipment are modern and scrupulously maintained the several times I was there (most recently April 2005), and it has a doctor and chamber on site. I'd go for it again.

StSomewhere:
Someone here on SB got bent after doing a set of dives and then immediately walking up a handful of flights of stairs to his room. I won't call him out, do a search and reach your own conclusions

I conclude it was the altitude that did him in. In any case, it's impossible to say. He may have bent if he stayed on the boat.

Well there ya go :)

Hi was there about a year past, there are huts on the island and mainland, they were very nice and clean, staff did a great job keeping the sand out. Food was awesome, you can gain weight if your not careful. Diving was not bad, some good, some terrific, some boring. For a Non diver, they have a small beach, andkayaks, there is a town in the west end, dont pay more than 5 bucks for a taxie, more for a group. Anthonys is really a dive resort, unless a non-diver is into just hanging out, relaxing on a beach and readingthey will be bored. Take a radio, the rooms on the island do not have phones or TVs. Dont need a alarm, the birds will wake you up around 5. Dive boats, Divemasters were terrific, they do nitrox also. Have fun.

I'm a non-diver married to a diver, and have been on numerous dive trips. We just returned from AKR and it was by far the best dive resort I've experienced. The snorkel boats are wonderful -- you don't feel like excess baggage on the dive boat -- but best of all is the horseback riding. I'm a somewhat experienced rider, and in the past was shocked at the miserable conditions of the animals in other Central American countries. AKR is an entirely different experience. The horses are well-fed and cared for, and Marvin, who is in charge of them, is a terrific leader. My biggest problem with finding something to do was deciding between the snorkel boat and riding.

830 days. Is that some new record or what?

AKR... another happy snorkeler and rider! :blinking:

Stairs are not "good for you" immediately after a dive.

Especially after a rain when you are wearing flip flops.....even with no drinking at all the stairs are deadly slick....ask my wife, she had the black and blue hip contusion to prove it...........great place, good food, fantastic diving, good people at the dive shop.....just watch out for the slick stairways!!!!
