Although there has been some very entertaining posts; relevance to the op has been minimal. Can anyone provide specific info on the mentioned operator. Thanks

Specifically?
I can tell you for sure the op in original post/question, will not dive the east side if the port is closed, which can happen in the time frame you'll be there.

Edit: Removed offending comment. It was a joke, but can see how it could be taken differently. Sorry Marg, my apologies.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Many off-topic posts in this thread have been moved to a new one on Dive Ops Handling Wetsuits. If you want to talk about peeing in your wetsuits please post in that thread. If you can't answer the OP in THIS thread, please rethink about the value of your post. Thanks. Marg, ScubaBoard Senior Moderator

Totally understood, if understood is a word.

However, the subject of this thread is extremely ambiguous. Shouldn't there be a policy of having thread subjects match their titles?

I mean "Have to Ask" isn't such a subject that should be narrowly construed. Sure, the OP was asking about a specific dive op, but that should be mentioned in the subject in order to make it a specific post, correct?

You never replied to my question. What do you mean by "diving your tank?"

Have you contacted the dive op and asked relevant questions?

Yes, the title should be relevant...not just "Question??????????"

I'll reply to your question.

The problem with diving one's tank is that some people can get 2 hours on the same AL80 that others can inhale in a half-hour. Even the ops that provide 120s to allow longer dives for those of us who actually breathe still limit the dives somewhat: around 70 min for deeper dives and 90 min for shallow is what I've experienced with LU.

Since we all pay the same, it's simply not fair to let those who don't breathe do two hour dives while the rest are sitting on the boat bored.

As for contacting the dive op, it may be news to some, but Mexico has internet access and e-mail and even telephones for those who can afford to spend a buck or two on a 10 minute call to find out all the answers without encroaching on interesting discussions about peeing in wetsuits. I hereby assign Snips the job of calling the dive op himself, then reporting back here on what he learned.

If your friend liked Caribbean Divers and you trust their opinion, I don't see any reason not to use them.

Just because there is no 'buzz' about them here on the board, doesn't mean they aren't a good op. It just simply means that not too many people on the SB use them apparently.

Sharky, that has been my thought with exceptions. If Caribbean takes out tech divers and may have to wait on the boat for them to finish (as suggested by Christi), it may not be a good match.

If Mossman is right that snips is not going to make a two hour dive when most everyone is done in 45 minutes (my example), then that is not really a defining attribute of most/any dive op.

So I would suggest diving with Caribbean for one or two days. You will know if they work for you in that period. Have a couple of dive ops in reserve if you want to try others. I have tried a dozen or so dive ops over the years and sometimes you just have to give someone a try to see if they are a good match for you.

Well, I guess that depend on the op. If you blow through a tank in 20 minutes, there is shade and snacks. And the Capitan is entertaining. We will be along to join you. We dive our tanks. As for fair, you got the same tank I did with the promise you can dive it as long as you want or can. If you 'prematurely empty your tank' and don't want to sit on the boat, go with a time limited op. Coz has something for everyone.

That being said, I used to be the guy on the boat early. That time sitting on the boat was instructive and convinced me I need to get my air consumption together.

wow, go to work and miss lots of stuff. By dive my tank I mean no "preset" dive times applied to everyone as well as the ability to continue even if someone blows through theirs in 30 mins. I have sent an email but haven't received an response yet.
